My Unpopular Travel Opinions

Hostels are better than hotels

I have this opinion for many reasons. Hostels offer free/discounted activities, lively atmosphere, full of travelers looking for adventure, and they cost less. You can even get private rooms just like a hotel. I have been to plenty of hostels that look like resorts with restaurants, bars, private beaches and infinity pools. Hotels are cool but I think if you are trying to have fun and meet people while traveling it’s a terrible idea. The only types of hotels I truly enjoy are all inclusive resorts.

I prefer isle seats over window seats

I like to have the freedom of getting up out of my seat without bothering people. I feel cramped when I am in the middle or window seat. The only reason for a window seat is to see out of the window which is cool for short flights under 5hours long. Otherwise, I need to be comfortable.

I did NOT enjoy Bali

Everyone said I would LOVE Bali. Well, I didn’t. I found it crawling with tourist, overpriced activities, hard to get around, and unfriendly to solo travelers. I will say, at least it’s pretty and you can take good photos there if you can get all the people to move out of the way when you take a picture.

Discount Airlines are my guilty pleasure

I love a good discount and I’m not particularly fond of driving to destinations. If I can take a flight and its cheap, that’s the way to go for me. “But you have to pay for snacks.” Child please, I bring my own refillable water bottle to the airport and I always bring my own snacks so that’s not a problem. I do have a photo of a private jet on my vision board…so I’ll do that one day.

Experiencing Nightlife in foreign countries is usually boring

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good party, but my definition of “good party” is hardly the same as other people. I am rarely impressed by any bar or nightclub I have gone to while abroad. I will usually try and attend a bar crawl every so often while traveling just to be social and meet people. I have experienced nightlife in Iceland, UK, France, Austria, Hungary, Cambodia, Turks and Caicos Islands, Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, and Ireland to name a few. The most interesting bar I went to was in the Vietnam called Maze Bar. The entire bar was a big ass maze, kind of creepy too. It was fun to drink and get lost.
